How was the Wall of Love created?

The Wall of Love was created in 2000 by Frédéric Baron and Claire Kito. Baron is described in the Montmartre tour material as a calligrapher who asked people he met around the city to write “I love you” in their native languages.

Baron then worked with the mural artist Claire Kito to bring those versions together on the tiled wall. The project includes both major and more obscure languages, including Esperanto, Inuit and Navajo.
